Whether it shows up in anticipation of the first date or the ensuing exam, or maybe because of the rumors at work about restructuring, anxiety is difficult to overcome. Maybe you look at your bank account and realize there’s just not enough there, so what do you do as the anxiety mounts?

Michael and Kim once felt anxiety like this. They desperately wanted to have children. They had been married for four years before their first daughter was born. They wanted another child and were excited when Kim became pregnant again.

Unfortunately, something went wrong and she endured a miscarriage. More miscarriages followed. Soon Michael and Kim weren’t excited about pregnancy. They felt anxious, afraid and overwhelmed each time Kim became pregnant and that anxiety crept into every area of our lives.

Your situation is probably completely different than Michael and Kim’, but the truth remains: life creates many anxious moments. And when the pressures of life continually increase, you may feel anxious all of the time. The pressure can be so great that you wonder if you will be able to carry the load of anxiety even one step further.

There is relief from the anxiety that controls you. It may not be easy to see right now, but anxiety doesn’t have to rule your life. Michael and Kim took their fears and concerns to God. Jesus Christ gave them peace. In the New Testament, the Apostle Peter gives great hope to all who battle anxiety. He tells us to, “Cast your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter5:7)

You can overcome anxiety. Begin by taking your problems to Jesus knowing that he cares for you. Knowing that God cares for us and can lift us out of our anxiety is life-changing. One key is learned to take your worries and fears to Jesus each day. It may take time, but remember that Jesus loves you and can help you live without anxiety.

Pray this simple prayer:

Dear Jesus, I’m so tired of feeling anxious about my life, and of thinking about everything going wrong. I need your help to change the way I live and think. Please forgive me for the wrong things I have done. Help me make a new start in life. Please take my anxiety and help me discover peace that comes from knowing you. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
